Contact improvisation: the center / with Ralf Jaroschinski
There are several ways of defining and understanding our body’s center. In contact improvisation alone there is more than one possibility to go about it. However, it proved practical to refer to the center of the weight of our body. A common misunderstanding in this context is thinking of it as a body part, though.
In this workshop we'd like to suggest a more dynamic approach, since every change in shape and tone alters our center’s location and quality. Luckily, we can perceive all of this directly due to our sense of balance and our proprioception.
In this workshop, we will raise our awareness for our center and for dancing with and from it. We will explore effortless ways of supporting and being supported, and we’ll find out a lot about our readiness to do either.
After all, this work isn’t only essential and satisfying, to center ourselves brings us peace and joy and helps us to remain nurtured from within.
