ZOMERWEEK | Physical training: Gaga
Our yearly Ghent summer-workshop-week traditionally starts every morning with a physical training. This allows you to start every day with an awake body and creative mind, ready to continue into your preferred classes. This year we have the honour to welcome Chen-Wei Lee who will guide a Gaga class. It is a rare opportunity, join us!
Gaga is the movement language that was developed by Ohad Naharin (Batsheva Dance company) throughout many years. Below there are some words describing Gaga, but the better way to get to know this very inspiring way of meeting yourself, your body and movement is to just do it. You don't need any previous dance or physical training experience. Everyone is welcome to join!
"Gaga is a way of gaining knowledge and self-awareness through your body. Gaga provides a framework for discovering and strengthening your body and adding flexibility, stamina, and agility while lightening the senses and imagination. Gaga raises awareness of physical weaknesses, awakens numb areas, exposes physical fixations, and offers ways for their elimination.
The work improves instinctive movement and connects conscious and unconscious movement, and it allows for an experience of freedom and pleasure in a simple way, in a pleasant space, in comfortable clothes, accompanied by music, each person with himself and others.” – Ohad Naharin
Recommended combinations: directly after this physical training you can join different dance, theatre, music ... and other art classes that you will all experience more intensely after this Gaga training!
Bring a bottle of water. Wear cloths in which you can easily move. We will work/move on bare feet or socks. Please be in time! Starting together and joining the full hour and a quarter is important in this form.
