Contemporary dance: floorwork
Every day we touch the ground without really being aware of gravity. However, for contemporary dancers, gravity plays an important role because everything starts with being grounded. In this series we play with weight and weightlessness and investigate different types of mobility.
Floorwork focuses on the movers’ relationship with the floor. The class will work with efficient pathways to move onto and away from the floor at different speeds and involving different layers of perception.
The class playfully connects the various parts of the body exploring all speeds, directions and energy levels. Challenging the gravity, we will learn how to fall, how to rise, and how to connect to the floor and the surrounding environment with smooth, powerful and organic movement.
Each week you will be taught a phrase that we explore and discover step by step.
Do you want more? We highly recommend the Yoga for dancers course, starting a week after this one!
Wear clothes that you can easily move in and bring a bottle of water. We dance barefoot.
